Just a decade ago, Mandarin Chinese was not taught as frequently in primary and secondary schools. Now, however, our client schools rush to develop their Chinese language departments, with some independent schools beginning instruction as early as kindergarten.

Our client schools are looking to hire Mandarin Chinese teachers with demonstrated language skills as well as experience working with students in an academic setting. They welcome native and non-native speakers alike. Typically, employers look for native speakers with a degree from an American university and experience teaching Chinese (not just ESL) and experience working in a public (i.e., not just a language) school. They also find American students with a degree in Chinese or Asian studies attractive, particularly if a candidate has lived in China. Candidates with independent school experience are particularly attractive.

The use of technology in the classroom is important, particularly due to the connective possibilities the Internet and tools like Skype can afford.
