Becoming a Compelling Admissions Candidate
Nowadays, what makes a compelling admissions candidate? As schools are changing and innovating, so are their admissions departments.
As the Secondary School Admissions Test Board reports, “a new set of competencies is required for enrollment management strategists. It is no longer enough for admission officers to have years of experience, a prestigious degree, or great ‘people’ skills to be effective in their increasingly intentional work.” Instead, SSATB posits, the best admissions candidates are also strong marketers, data analysts, and strategists.
In an excellent piece, “Building Talent,” in the spring issue of its magazine, Yield, SSATB examines what constitutes the best admissions candidates today, and how the effective hiring of such candidates affects school culture. Our own Ben Bolte, Admissions Placement Associate, was interviewed for the article, and he shares his own tips and analysis based on hiring trends he’s seen in schools recently.
Check out the fantastic piece here. Let us know: what skills do you find most important in admissions candidates–and all types of school leaders?
