FORUM/Boston 2017: All You Need to Know
**As you may have heard, Boston is predicted to be hit with a winter storm later this week. We have always held the Boston FORUM rain or shine, snow or not. The same is true this year. The conference will be held February 10-11 regardless of weather, so please factor this into your travel plans. Should you experience any travel delays, call or email your contact at CS&A and we will notify anyone who the delay may affect. Safe travels, and we look forward to seeing you in Boston!**
As schools and candidates get ready to gather at The Westin Copley Place in downtown Boston this Friday and Saturday, we're making our last-minute preparations to ensure that our largest hiring conference of the year goes off without a hitch. Here is some last-minute information and some items you want to make sure you've done before Friday.
1. The details:
Location- The Westin Copley Place, 10 Huntington Avenue, Boston
Friday, February 10
7:00 a.m.- Candidate and school registration opens
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.- Interviews
Saturday, February 11
7:00 a.m.- Candidate and school registration opens
8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.- Interviews
2. Log into the Boston conference module.
We can't stress this enough! Whether you're a school or a candidate, it's imperative that you login and review a few items. For schools: You'll want to be checking your schedule often, making note of any candidates that may have cancelled interviews or of any interviews we set up for you. You should also check the Messages section often, as candidates interested in your school will use that feature to reach out and introduce themselves. For candidates: You should also be checking your schedule and letting any schools who have scheduled interviews with you know right away if you're not interested.
3. Have some open interview slots? Don't panic!
Schools are often busy scheduling interviews up until the day of the event. If you only have one or two interviews, we still highly recommend attending as we know that many interviews are scheduled at the last minute. If you're a school contact and you'd like to fill in some of your empty slots, reach out to your Placement Team and we'll work to add a few more interviews.
If you do end up with some time in between interviews at the conference, the hotel will have a room with tables and chairs for candidates to review their resume or prepare for their next interview. We will also be hosting a few panel presentations throughout the event, which are open to both schools and candidates (see #6).
4. What should you bring?
For both schools and candidates, we recommend bringing a laptop or tablet to access the conference module (and a charger!) or to use in between interviews. Schools have access to candidate resumes, but candidates can bring a few extra copies, too, if they'd like. There will be a coat rack, and the candidate room will be a good place to stash winter boots. Other than that, just bring a positive attitude and your best interview vibes!
(Reminder for schools: We will NOT be including hard copies of resumes or schedules in your folders. You can view them via the conference module on your personal device, or, once onsite, you can request that printed copies be brought to your table.)
5. Communicate, communicate, communicate.
Running late? Family emergency? We know some circumstances are unavoidable. All we ask is that you let us know about any change in your plans so we can work to accommodate anyone who might be affected by the change. If you're a candidate, you'll receive a phone number you can call in emergencies on the day of the event. You should also email your Placement Team to let them know of any schedule changes.
6. Announcing our Collab Lab!
We're excited to announce a new endeavor at FORUM/Boston, our Collab Lab! This space will be dedicated to our panel presentations and be a spot for our Placement Team to hold “office hours,” where candidates and the CS&A crew can meet to discuss their job search, get questions answered, or just have some good ol' fashioned face time.
