I want to take a moment to thank the three of you for your guidance, professionalism, insight, and constant vigilance as we undertook this most important undertaking. I think we had a series of good decisions in this process but the best one we had was the selection of Carney Sandoe as our search team. Carney Sandoe provided tremendous support to the Hockaday search. The breadth of the candidate pool, the connections within the independent school community, and the depth of the personal interviews with the candidates prior to meeting the search committee were all hallmarks. In particular, our consultants, Rayna and Aggie, were keenly aware of and sensitive to not only the requirements of the position but also the emotional needs of our school during our time of transition. They were accessible 24/7 and immediately responsive to all of our requests. Jennifer delivered and the individual we hired has met or exceeded all of our expectations.
Needing to fill a position that was critically important to strategic enrollment management and to the entire USF community and that we knew would be hard to fill, we partnered with Jennifer. We counted on her deep knowledge of the college enrollment profession from both the higher ed and secondary sides of the desk, her substantial contacts, and insights on the mechanics of the search process to help us secure an outstanding candidate pool and hire. We are grateful to Ralph for his insight, his passion, and for encouraging us to become a much more effective board.
Ralph spent 24 hours with our board and gave us plenty to think about as we began a new chapter in our school’s history. With a brand new president and principal (following a “legacy” president who had been with us for over four decades), Ralph energized us to take a step back and clarify how our board could effectively govern “at 30,000 feet” while giving our new leaders the space and support they needed. Every board member left the session with a clearer sense of purpose, pride, and understanding of the work "that only the board can do.” We are grateful to Ralph for his insight, his passion, and for encouraging us to become a much more effective board.
