James H. Carney II
Mr. Carney graduated from St. Sebastian's Country Day School in Newton, MA, then from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, with a B.A. in history and government and Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, with a M.A.L.S. in liberal studies. He completed additional study at the University of Madrid, New York University.
Mr. Carney taught at St. Edward's School in Florida as a founding faculty member and at Purnell School in New Jersey. He succeeded the founder as Head of School in 1974, and was Executive Vice President of John's Island Company and COO of the Driftwood Resort Group in Florida, and Vice President and Senior Consultant with the Princeton Strategy Group in New Jersey. He joined Carney, Sandoe & Associates in 1984 and serves as its Chairman. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Gardner Carney Leadership Institute in Colorado Springs, CO.
Mr. Carney has served or currently serves on the following boards: Fishers Island Development Corporation, Fishers Island, NY; Advisory Council of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Lander, WY; the Alumni Board of Directors and the President's Leadership Council of Rollins College, Winter Park, FL; Trustee, Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, Rabun Gap, GA; Fountain Valley School, Colorado Springs, CO; Trustee, Purnell School, Pottersville, NJ; Board of Visitors, Walnut Hill School, Natick, MA; Trustee, Vero Beach Museum of Art, Vero Beach, FL; Member, The Distinguished Lecture Series of the Riverside Theatre, Vero Beach, FL. Served as Trustee and first Chair of the New Jersey State Teenage Festival of the Arts; Director, General Advisory Board of Odyssey House, New York City; Trustee, Museum and Center for the Arts, and Director, Riverside Children's Theater, Florida.
