Background & Experience
John joined CS&A from Trinity School in New York City, where he served as Head of School for 15 years. Under his leadership, the school underwent two comprehensive strategic planning processes focused on community and belonging, public service, student well-being, diversity and inclusion, citizenship, educational technology, global engagement, and facilities improvements. As Head, John spearheaded the development of signature Trinity programs, including the Community Circle Partnerships, Minimester, Out-of-the-Box Days, Sophomore Seminar, and Road Scholars Program. He was responsible for overseeing a $140M capital campaign—the largest in the school’s history.
Prior to leading Trinity, John served as the Headmaster at St. John’s School in Houston, Texas. There, he led the school’s then-largest capital campaign ($50M), expanded student activities, globalized curricula, and launched new distinctive experiences. In addition, he instituted a three-year Scientific Design and Research program with the goal of generating authentic, publishable scientific research, and focused on diversifying the school’s faculty, students, and curriculum.
Earlier in his career, John served as Upper School Principal at The Lovett School for four years, and he also spent a decade as an English teacher and Department Head at St. Mark’s School of Texas. Throughout his career, he has focused on shaping school communities characterized by service, diversity, citizenship, and character.
Education & Interests
John earned his B.A. in English from Yale and his M.A. in English from the University of Virginia. He enjoys spending time with his wife, three adult sons, and golden retriever.
