Previous Experience
Kim comes to CS&A from Groves Academy (MN), where she served as Head of School from 2017 to 2024. In this capacity, Kim helped nurture and develop a positive culture rooted in the school’s core values, mission, and vision. Kim’s far-ranging responsibilities included strategic planning and goal-setting, budget development, recruitment and hiring, establishing instructional guidelines for faculty, and cultivating relationships with like-minded schools. She founded the Griffin Service Core, which promotes volunteerism and service within and beyond the school.
Prior to joining Groves, Kim spent 11 years in various positions at Breck School. In each of her roles—including Upper School Academic Resource Instructor/Community Outreach Coordinator, Dean of Studies, and Director of the Melrose Family Center for Servant Leadership—Kim demonstrated her overarching commitment to nurturing the potential of all students, both within and outside the classroom. During her time at Breck, Kim oversaw the school’s weekly community service program, provided resources to help students and families thrive academically, counseled students and families on curricular choices, organized a master schedule of classes, and launched a servant leadership center focused on offering innovative leadership programming to help students become their best selves and elicit the best in others.
Kim spent over a decade teaching English in Detroit Public Schools, including at her alma mater. While she worked in Detroit, Kim was named English Teacher of the Year, received the Detroit Public Schools Outstanding Teacher Award, and was awarded the Booker T. Washington Educator’s Award.
Education & Interests
Kim earned her B.A. in English Education from Michigan State University and her Master’s in English and Secondary Education from Wayne State University. She enjoys reading, watching great movies, and enjoying the company of family and friends.
